Thunder Racing’s customers can now opt to have parts they order be cryogenically processed before shipment. Thunder Racing has a commitment to be an innovator in our industry and to embrace the technology that improves
our products. We have found this process to be very helpful on items like brake rotors, valve springs, ring and pinions and many other metal parts that may need to be stronger or last longer. Many race teams around the world
use deep cryogenic processing to increase the dependability and strength of many crucial parts. We believe that our valued customers should have access to the same technology that helps win races. Most NASCAR teams are using cryogenic processing in some form on the track right now. NASCAR has been using cryogenic processing for some time now and some teams have every part on their car that can be processed done. Because of their competitive environment these race teams have been very tight lipped about the things they do to give their teams an edge, but now cryogenic technology has become so widely used in the racing industry that it can no longer be kept a secret. These teams use this process to give themselves an edge on the track and ultimately finish races. Our customers can use this technology to build a stronger rotating assembly, eliminate warping rotors or build an engine and drive train that runs smoother and lasts much longer.
In a nut shell Deep Cryogenic Processing works by the use of deliberate temperature recipes that include a “soak” at -300°f. This extremely low temp is held for an extended amount of time, and then the temp is slowly raised, and followed by a mild temper at 300°. This treatment has shown to improve wear resistance immensely while increasing strength, dimensional stability, improving heat dissipation and many other benefits.
Teams that are already using cryogenic processing have many exceptional things to say about it. One NHRA team is using cryo processing on their $400 set of valve springs. Before cryogenic processing the team was getting 7-8 passes before the springs needed replacing. After cryogenic processing the team now gets 25-35 passes before the springs need replacing. This is saving this team money in the replacement costs of the springs and the time it takes to tear down the engine to replace these springs. Another road race team had to change ring gears every race or two due to downshift tendencies and wear. After cryogenic processing of the ring and pinion gears the processed gears lasted the entire season with no replacement needed. This same team was changing brake rotors after every race, after processing the rotors they only needed to be changed one time during the entire next season. This team now processes their entire transmission as well.
One top alcohol hydro race boat team has their entire engines processed and rock crawling 4X4s that break axles regularly say that after processing their axles no longer break. A drag bike that won open class in the first round with a 7.46@170! All on one wheel had their engine and tranny cryogenically processed.
