The Translator Pro is a high-tech engine tuning device intended to fill the "technology gap" between the popular but simple piggyback tuning devices and the full-blown, expensive standalone engine management
systems. The Translator Pro uses sophisticated computations to determine engine airflow, thus relieving the user of the daunting task of completely mapping the engine's operation. Once the initial setup is complete, there is
usually little tuning required to attain smooth operation and driveability. The Engine Control Module (ECM) or Engine Control Unit (ECU) in a vehicle is a small computer unit responsible for calculating how much fuel is injected into the engine. The fuel is injected to match the air flowing into the engine. The Translator Pro, like all "piggyback" controllers allows the user to adjust the airflow measurement, thus changing how much fuel the ECM/ECU injects into the engine. This is how the user "tunes" the engine. The Translator Pro is unique in that it allows the user to remove air measurement devices (MAS, MAF, VAF, etc) from the engine and use a speed density calculated signal to replace it. In high performance engine applications this has many advantages and added flexibility.
The Translator Pro, in its standard Speed-Density configuration, calculates engine airflow using the laws of physics, which makes the tuning adjustments much simpler than many competing units that require a large amount of data be entered just to get the engine to run.
Speed Density calculates engine airflow as follows. Consider a theoretical " 4 Liter" engine for the following explanation. The engine can be thought of as a pump that, at 100% efficiency, will move 4 liters of material from its inlet to its outlet every 2 revolutions or the crankshaft. At idle the efficiency is mainly controlled by the throttle blade and somewhat by the camshaft/valve timing. At heavier throttle the efficiency is mainly affected by the camshaft and valve timing and mechanical efficiencies of its construction. The material that is being moved by this pump is air of varying pressure and temperature. Since we can measure the pressure and temperature of the air entering this engine, we can calculate the air being pumped through if we know the efficiency. This efficiency is known as the "Volumetric Efficiency" and is the main tuning element of the Translator Pro's Speed Density algorithm. The Translator Pro then uses the calculated airflow number to generate an airflow signal to send to the ECM/ECU. The ECM/ECM is unaware that the air measurement is coming from the Translator Pro instead of the original measurement device, and will deliver fuel based on the new airflow signal.
Volumetric Efficiency (VE) is the main "tuning" element in the Speed Density system. VE is generally around 55 to 66 percent at idle. At mid and heavy throttle the VE is highest (85 to 95 %) at peak torque RPM. VE tends to fall at high boost and RPM on turbocharged vehicles due to turbo backpressure. On the Translator Pro, the VE table is preprogrammed, but can be easily changed using the PC interface program. The default VE table is close enough for most applications, and the keypad tuning methods can be used to fine-tune the system.
With 3 load levels 14 rpm bands and = or - 60% tuning in 1/2% increments. The MAF Translator Pro stands alone in aftermarket tuning devices.
The MAFT Pro will also function as a stand alone boost controller for turbo applications, and a timing controller in selected applications. More applications are being devolped all the time and software can be upgraded by a simple download. A complete list of available harnesses and accessories are listed here and at the maftpro web site.
MAF TRANSLATOR PRO FEATURES:
Air/Fuel Computer mode: This mode works extremely well for
tuning all types of vehicles and is used to modify the airflow signal to tune the vehicle. The airflow sensor signal from the MAF or MAP sensor are tuned via the Translator Pro's sophisticated 3D mapping algorithm allowing
full tunability using the front panel keypad or Windows(TM) PC using the provided software. There are 12 rpm points and 3 different load tables, all adjustable in 1/2% increments. This means more precise tuning than
competitive products!
MAF Translator Mode: Llets you replace a restrictive or failing MAF system with another style or size of sensor. We have built in calibrations for popular and highly accurate GM MAF sensors up to 85mm that will now work on any car originally equipped with a MAF sensor. Reducing MAF sensor restriction by upgrading the MAF dramatically improves turbo spool time and horsepower and sensor range.
Speed Density Mode: Is the ultimate in bolt-on tuning mods! The Translator Pro performs a true speed density calculation to determine engine airflow, allowing the user to remove the MAF sensor and use a GM 3 or our 5 bar MAP sensor. Allowing tuning by RPM and boost, the Translator Pro is pre-configured with base maps for most popular applications to get the user up and running quickly, just select the base map, injector size, and go!

The LM-2 combines an air/fuel ratio meter, a full-function
32-channel datalogger, and powerful software to deliver a complete
tuning workshop for less than the cost of one dyno day. Whether you
have a piggy-back fuel controller, race carb, aftermarket ECU, ODB-II
tuning software, or a flash/chip programmer, an LM-2 is the tool you
need to dial in maximum HP. The meter’s digital signal processing
technology provides data on exactly how rich or lean an engine is
running at any load. The LM-2’s self-calibrating circuitry also
compensates for changes in temperature, altitude, and sensor condition.

The AuxBox attaches to the auxiliary input of the LM-1 and allows a user to log and analyze 5 critical engine metrics in addition to the air/fuel ratio native on the LM-1. The AuxBox makes the LM-1 into a complete tuning kit, allowing the user to capture, view, and analyze data on all 6
channels that the LM-1 can log internally. Correlating AFR, RPM, MAP, and CHT, for example, is essential when tuning piggy-back fuel controllers, ECU programmers,
aftermarket ECUs, or racing carburetors. The 5 internal sensors are intended for capturing Manifold Air Pressure (MAP or Boost), Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) or Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), RPM conversion (from a tach signal or inductive clamp), Acceleration, and Injector Duty Cycle (or Dwell). The internal MAP sensor is a 3-bar absolute pressure sensor, providing accurate data up to 44.1 PSIA. The temperature measurement circuit features a K-type thermocouple. The internal accelerometer features 2 axis measurements for a variety of mounting options.
Another key application of the AuxBox is road testing. Even a dyno doesn’t provide as much real data as road testing. Factors like air flow, side force, and load vary significantly on a real road. With an AuxBox, a user can log 6 channels, in multiple sessions, for up to 44 minutes. Then, back at the garage, simply connect the LM-1 to you PC and view all of you log data. Use LogWorks to view fuel mapping, perform statistical analysis, overlay graphs, and playback a log on the virtual gauges. You can also view realtime data on LogWorks’ gauges if you want to take your laptop on the road.
The AuxBox also includes 5 external inputs for connecting external sensors in lieu of the internal sensors. This allows users to log data from external sensors like TPS or suspension data.
The AuxBox ships with mounting hardware, a 6’ thermocouple wire, the LM-1 connecting cable, and the user manual.
The LC-1 is a complete wideband controller built in to a sealed cable. It features the same award-winning patented digital measurement principal found in the LM-1, and
includes digital input, output, and 2 programmable analog outputs.
This new version of the MAF Translator is a dramatic new upgrade from the regular unit. Borrowing technology from the Translator Pro, the Gen 2 now has the ability to adjust fuel + or - 60% in 1/2% steps across 14 RPM bands
in 3 different load areas! We have also added our "wideband tracking" technology to this unit. You can connect any populal wideband that has a 0-5 volt output on the controller and then you can set the desired A/F ratio across the RPM band at WOT. The Gen 2 will then track A/F and automatically adjust the fuel to keep the desired ratio. If the car leans out, the Gen 2 will add fuel and if the car runs rich it will remove fuel.
