1998-2002 LS1 F-Body Oil Pumps
Thunder Racing starts with a brand new LS6 oil pump and removes casting flash for improved flow. This is a great upgrade over the stock LS1 oil pump. We recommend installing this pump if you are already doing a camshaft
install or engine rebuild. Installation accessories listed seperately.
This oil pump provides more oil volume at a higher pressure relief setting. The pump uses a gerotor design that provides 15% more oil than the original GM design. The relief spring installed in the pump is designed to increase the internal pressure setting an additional 10 psi over stock. A stock pressure spring is supplied with this pump which will reduce the internal bypass pressure back to the stock psi setting.
An additional porting option is available from Thunder Racing to improve flow over a standard Melling pump. Thunder Racing starts with a brand new Melling pump and completely disassembles it. Once apart, the pump goes through a vigorous porting procedure which includes:
Once porting is complete, the pump is then thoroughly cleaned, re-assembled, and the desired pressure relief spring is installed. Thunder Racing recommends the high-pressure spring for use with "built" motors that have bearing clearances that are looser than stock tolerances. The standard spring is sufficient for most other applications.
Research has proven that a smooth, adequate flow of oil contributes more to engine life than erratic flow, regardless of total pressure. Pump housings feature special feeder grooves that fill cavitation
areas, and enlarged pressure relief ports for smooth flow, improved performance and more oil where you need it.
